Folinic Acid
Did anyone see today tonight (I think it was) about folinic acid, apparently it can help with the obesity gene, I looked it up on the internet and on the page i went too was the Gabriel method advertisement all over it, i took that as a sign, am going to give that a try any help with a defective gene is worth a go

Re: Folinic Acid
I've never heard of Folinic acid, though I've heard of Folic acid. I wonder what the difference is.
I never watch "today tonight" or the other one as I don't trust the accuracy of their journalism.

Re: Folinic Acid
Folinic acid is an advanced form of folic acid part of the folate group used in Chemotherapy to enhance the other drugs and to protect body from being ravaged by the other drugs.
conditions possibly benefiting from folinic acid supplementation include: AIDS/HIV, celiac disease, cervical displasia, cleft palate, colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, diarrhea, gout, high cholesterol, increased fracture of chromosomes, malabsorption and gastrointestinal inflammation, megaloblastic anemia, restless leg syndrome, postpartum depression, weight loss, sprue, ulcerative colitis, and vitiligo.
Numerous drugs are known to inhibit the body’s ability to utilize folate, including: 1) aspirin, 2) cholesterol lowering drugs, 3) oral birth control pills, 4) antacids, and 5) methotrexate when used for rheumatoid arthritis. When taking these drugs or suffering from the conditions mentioned above it is recommended that you take 800 mcg daily of folinic acid.
The following are possible side effects of Folinic Acid:
* Allergic reactions: rash, itching, facial flushing. Rarely severe.
* Nausea and vomiting (rare)
Patients with epilepsy should avoid high doses of folinic acid as it may increase the incidence of seizures. If you have a known allergy to folic acid then folinic acid should also be avoided

Re: Folinic Acid
Personally, I'd have to agree with Marie. (Every time they have a story about "the diet that actually works" are they admitting that all of the previous ones actually don't?).
But the fact that ads for the GM show up on a site doesn't mean we've had anything to do with that site.

Re: Folinic Acid
The other supplement I have added is Super lecethin as it is suppodes to help in the control of cortisol levels, folinic is naturally occuring in food (Folic is synthetic) so I would think if you're eating the live foods etc you'll probably be getting enough of it already

Re: Folinic Acid
Dolphinlight, I'm probably going to sound like a cracked record because I mention this regularly.
If you are taking between five and ten grams of omega 3 (usually fish oil) capsules AND two capsules of Vit E (500it) you may well be covered for a lot of problems with mental health and depression.
The Vit E help to get the best out of the omega 3 and also are a great help with your sense of well being. They are also good for all your internal organs and for your hair and skin.
The Vit E takes about a week to kick in and you may even begin to wonder why you had been depressed.
Good luck with the journey,
Marie

Re: Folinic Acid
Thanks Marie for your fish oil/vit e advice ...been trying to work out how many fish oil capsules that would work out per day hmm, already take 2x1000mg with breakfast. I have noticed that when i eat fish every day at work(tin of tuna)my mood is much calmer/balanced..i seem to get down easily if i dont keep on top of it but extra supplements sound good
Ahh..to be calm & happy most of the time would be great..

Re: Folinic Acid
Dolphinlight, before I started learning about the advantages of vit E I had been depressed and for some time taking St John's Wort. For me that has been very helpful and I am not depressed while taking it. Dr said it is OK to take it as long as I feel it is helping. I checked mojome's post again, the list said postpartum depression, it might be specific and not for all forms of D. Another reason I like St J W is that I am very sensitive and had no reaction to it .

Re: Folinic Acid
I am working on past lives at the moment which is making more sense, found a coal miner who was depressed and didnt want to wake up in the mornings he was obese, and a few other lives where it was very cloudy all the time, and the weather wasnt good, so, see how i go after that, there are more elements than one, the deppression is just about gone, but the eating habits I had with the depression are still with me, they do prescribe folinic acid for depression but you would have to carry the defective gene for it to have any effect, I like the idea of genetic therapy thats why i'm willing to have a go if it doesnt work thats fine if it does then I'm cured
